  • August 20, 2010 10:44 am EDT

MOUNT VERNON — The city of Mount Vernon intends to apply to the Ohio Department of Development for funding under the Community Development Block Grant Small Cities Program.

The CDBG program is a federally funded program administered by the state. Authorizing legislation will be considered at Monday’s City Council meeting.

The city is eligible for up to $200,000 in fiscal year 2010 CDBG downtown revitalization discretionary grant funding providing the city meets applicable program requirements. The grant funds are intended to be used for the Woodward Opera House redevelopment project, with all other project matching funds provided by the Woodward Development Corp. from donations and other grant sources.

The public hearing will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the council chambers on the second floor of Mount Vernon City Hall, 40 Public Square.

The hearing is to give citizens an adequate opportunity to review and comment on the city’s proposed CDBG Community Development application before the city submits the application to the Ohio Department of Development.

Citizens are encouraged to attend. Questions concerning the proposed project may be directed to the project manager by calling 392-6142.
