MOUNT VERNON — A Powell father was sentenced to community control by Knox County Common Pleas Judge Otho Eyster for failing to pay thousands of dollars in child support obligations.

Scott M. Hoover, 49, was convicted of felony nonsupport of dependents on Friday.

He was sentenced to a three-year term of community control supervision and ordered to make payments toward his $36,000 child support arrearage.

Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher said Hoover will serve an 11-month prison term if he violates the conditions of his supervision.

Erin E. Novo, 24, Centerburg, admitted she violated the terms of her community control supervision when she tested positive for marijuana in June.

Thatcher said Novo’s community control supervision term was continued with an additional sanction that she will serve a 90-day jail sentence. Novo was originally convicted of stealing two blank checks on April 30.
