  • Director rejects pay raise

MOUNT VERNON — The board of directors of The Station Break of Mount Vernon recently offered a pay raise to executive director Kelly Lybarger-Dewitt, who then turned down the board’s offer.

“We did a complete evaluation of her position, and everything came back very favorable,” said board chairman Richard Mavis. “She has done an outstanding job, and we felt a raise was in line at this time.”

Lybarger-Dewitt has held the position of executive director at the local senior center since June 2007 and was business manager for six and one-half years prior to that. “I didn’t need it,” she said when speaking of her offer for a pay raise. “I just feel the money needs to go toward the senior programs. There is no specific area it will go toward, but it should just be used for whatever programs need it the most.”

“The board agreed not to grant her the pay raise, since she had concerns of tax issues involved in giving it back once accepted,” said Mavis. “We know her commitment. She is a fine person.”
