MOUNT VERNON — A fire on Johnstown Road last Friday which caused extensive damage to the home of Cindy Carter was reportedly caused by mechanical failure of a clothes dryer. COJFD Chief Joe Porter recommends that people not leave home with their dryer, washer, dishwasher or other electrical appliance running. He also recommended unplugging appliances and electronic equipment when leaving your home for two days or more.
The American Red Cross Knox County Chapter provided food, clothing and shoes to the family.
