MOUNT VERNON — A 6-year-old Mount Vernon girl is in Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus after being struck by a vehicle on her way to school Monday morning.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., the Mount Vernon Police Department received several calls about a pedestrian hit on Mansfield Avenue.

“Neenah Phillips, 6, of Mulberry Street, was trying to cross the road on Mansfield Avenue in the area of Warden Street,” said Capt. George Hartz of the MVPD. “The driver of the car, Marcie Estes, was traveling south on Mansfield Avenue and just didn’t get a chance to stop. The girl ran right out in front of her.”

Phillips was taken to Knox Community Hospital by the Mount Vernon Fire Department then flown by MedFlight helicopter to NCH.

Hartz said at the time of the accident Phillips had no incapacitating injuries.

Calls inquiring about the condition of Phillips have not yet been returned.
