  • City sells junk cars

  • September 4, 2010 6:39 am EDT

MOUNT VERNON — Mayor Richard Mavis said 48 junk cars were sold recently to Ross Brothers Salvage Yard for $12,539 from the city’s car pound on Greenwood Avenue.

The income received by the city excludes cost for towing the vehicles to the salvage yard.

“The cars sold were not suitable to be on the road,” he said. “There are a few cars still there whose titles are still tied up in court.”

The cars that are worthy of sale will be kept to be auctioned at a later date.

“If you drive to [the car pound] now, there’s a lot of open space that wasn’t there before,” said Mavis.
