MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis said starting Monday the Mount Vernon City Council meeting will begin with an address by city department heads in a committee meeting. It’s an open public session, although those segments will not be part of the televised council coverage.
“Each person will be given 15 minutes to educate council as to what they are doing and what their needs may be,” Mavis said. “ It’s an increased opportunity for communication, and a chance for everyone to get better acquainted. It will give council a chance to know the chiefs, know the department heads and be able to ask questions. It also gives our department leadership the opportunity to communicate with all the council members in addition to the council member who is head of that particular committee.”
Fire Chief Shawn Christy will be Monday’s guest, speaking from 6:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.
