  • Sewer upgrades moving forward

  • September 14, 2010 11:17 am EDT

MOUNT VERNON — Committee meetings prior to Monday night’s Mount Vernon City Council meeting ran the gamut from dilapidated buildings to sewer lines and water park scholarships.

The Utilities Committee discussed the details of the Kokosing and Center Run interceptor and the Waste- Water Treatment Plant Upgrades to educate council members of the necessity for the projects as well as the funding.

The wastewater treatment plant upgrades will cost just under $9 million, down from the projected $11 million to 12 million, said Safety-Service Director David Glass.

The project was mandated by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and will be paid for by a combination of an exceptionally low-rate loan provided through the OEPA, $144,000 in grants and the increases in sewer rates — the last of which will be assessed in January.
