MOUNT VERNON — Kay Culbertson, publisher of the Mount Vernon News, is pleased to announce Bill Davis will be joining the editorial department as the new sports editor.

“Bill’s passion for all things sports related is exactly what we look for when hiring for this position,” Culbertson said. “We expect great things from him and we are certain our readers will appreciate his quality sports coverage.”

A 2001 graduate of Ball State University with a degree in communications, Davis comes to the News with a journalism background that encompasses sports writing and broadcasting as well as news production in the Columbus news market.

“This is a dream come true,” Davis said. After switching gears from sports to traditional news and then leaving the field of journalism, he said he is happy to be back in the sports world.

“I’m glad to be with a good group of people doing what I love,” Davis said.

Davis marks his debut with the News in today’s edition with coverage of the East Knox-Centerburg volleyball game. He will travel to Danville tonight as the Blue Devils host the Loudonville Red Birds on the gridiron.

He will officially take over as sports editor on Thursday. At that time, he can be reached by calling 397-5333, ext. 247; or by e-mail at bdavis@mountvernonnews.com

Davis lives in Mount Vernon with his wife, Rachel, and their two children, Rebecca, 3, and Jacob, 11-months.
