MOUNT VERNON — Representatives from area AMVETS were special visitors to Thursday’s meeting of the Knox County Career Center school board. Treasurer Tracy Elliott said the service organizations donated service flags to the JROTC program and presented colors along with them.
Regarding personnel, the board granted the retirement request of English teacher Nancy Wagner. Wagner has taught at KCCC for 20 years. The board also approved: Youth club advisors, teachers for elective classes, department leaders, and advisory committee lists from each program. It also hired Amanda Thompson as adult education massage therapy coordinator, at $26 per hour, and as an adult education clinical instructor at $35 per hour. Both positions are retroactive to Aug. 31. Two career-based intervention students were approved as preschool volunteers from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, of the weeks preschool is in session and special needs instructor Vicki Clark was advanced on the salary schedule due to completion of requirements.
Besides approving routine fiscal actions, the board authorized the treasurer to establish and maintain an account with Multi-Bank Securities and Pershing LLC for the purpose of purchasing, investing and selling securities. Elliott said KCCC purchases federal bonds as an investment instead of certificates of deposit because the securities yield higher returns.
Other items approved Thursday included a number of proposed field trips, several adult programs and instructors, the use of the KCCC parking lot by the Mount Vernon Nazarene University for the SonFest Music Festival on Oct. 2, and career-based intervention class fees.
Prior to adjournment, the board moved its regular October meeting to 7:15 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 14.
