MOUNT VERNON — An early fall “harvest” operation on Monday has resulted in the seizure of over $50,000 worth of marijuana.

According to Knox County Sheriff David Barber, a total of 56 large growing marijuana plants were located and seized late Monday afternoon from a cornfield in southeastern Knox County. After receiving information on the location of the plants, deputies harvested the plants which were located near Bell Church Road.

Barber said although no suspects have been linked to the plants at this time, detectives are continuing to investigate the growing operation.

Anyone with information about growing marijuana plants or other drug activity in the county is asked to contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at 393-6800 or the toll-free Crime Tip Line at (888) 363-TIPS (888-363-8477).

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is an active member of the 10-county METRICH Enforcement Unit.
