MOUNT VERNON — On Monday, Knox County Common Pleas Court Judge Otho Eyster handed down sentences in two felony cases, according to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher.
Shannon D. Beheler, 40, Mount Vernon, was convicted of vehicular assault and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Beheler was sentenced to a three-year term of community control supervision, including a 20-day jail sentence, a $1,625 fine, $25,000 in restitution to the crime victim, drug and alcohol monitoring, and a one-year driver’s license suspension. Beheler will serve a 17-month prison term, if she violates the terms of her supervision.
Thatcher said on Dec. 23, 2009, Trooper Joshua Stryker, Ohio State Highway Patrol, responded to a two-vehicle crash on Ohio 3 in Mount Vernon. Beheler was driving northbound when she went left of center striking a southbound vehicle. The driver of the southbound vehicle was transported to Knox Community Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Trooper Stryker detected the presence of alcohol on Beheler who subsequently failed field sobriety tests.
Jaryd J. Young, 34, Mount Vernon, was convicted of his second felony domestic violence offense for assaulting his live-in girlfriend, on July 18. Young was sentenced to a two-year prison term. Thatcher said the prison term will run concurrently with a 17-month prison term Young received for his first felony domestic violence conviction, on Sept. 17. Both cases involved the same woman, according to Thatcher. Patrolmen Justin Trowbridge and Rex Young, Mount Vernon Police Department, investigated the case.
