MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon area residents will have the opportunity to enjoy a drop-in time of entertainment, food and socializing plus support a worthy cause this weekend when The Main Place will host Rally in the Alley to promote mental health recovery.
“We would like to see everybody in the community come out and have a good time plus see what we have to offer,” said Angela Sheets, clinical director at The Main Place. There will be food available from various vendors, games for the kids, arts and crafts, and music inside as well as outside.
Funds raised at this event will benefit The Main Place, with the majority of the money going toward the music program, according to Sheets.
“We have applied for a grant to help pay for a sliding partition in the Great Room which will provide a larger music area,” said Sheets. It is hoped the room can be filled with newer instruments and better sound equipment.
Visitors to The Main Place can come in and play the instruments if they wish. “This helps them manage their emotions and build self-esteem as well as teaches them to work together as a group and gives them a sense of accomplishment,” said Sheets.
There will also be hourly raffles throughout the weekend, a 50/50 drawing and a drawing for a 50cc scooter.
Rally in the Alley will take place along North Mechanic Street between High and Chestnut streets, on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The Main Place, at 117 W. High St., is a Mental Health Recovery Agency which promotes recovery through peer support, socialization, education and training. By working together, consumers build better lives for themselves, gain employment, maintain independence and earn acceptance in their communities. They offer diagnostic assessments, peer support, individual case management, employment assistance, and group activities and classes, among other services.
