MOUNT VERNON — An evening of local party rallying, just six weeks prior to the general election, took place Thursday evening when the Knox County Democratic Party hosted its 40th annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in the Glenn A. Gallagher Centre at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.
The evening began with program chairwoman Meg Galipault welcoming those in attendance. Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis served as master of ceremonies, with City Council President John Booth leading the Pledge of Allegiance and giving the invocation. Following dinner, catered by Grillers in Howard, Mavis introduced Dylan Sweeney, field organizer for Congressman Zack Space, who spoke on Space’s behalf urging for the party’s vote in November. Space was unable to attend the event.
Also speaking for the local Democratic Party was Zach Rickard who encouraged everyone to “talk to the voters.”
Knox County Democratic Party Secretary Mary Rugola-Dye then gave an enthusiastic speech, calling for party unity in November’s election.
John Ryerson, candidate for State Representative for the 90th District, spoke to those in attendance and also asked for party support in the election.
