MOUNT VERNON — Expecting a new addition to your family? Having trouble finding something to wear? Monkey Mums Maternity at 15 E. Vine St. in Mount Vernon might be the place to go. The newly opened shop carries quality second-hand maternity attire in small through plus sizes.
The store offers sleeveless tops, long-sleeved items, dresses, pants, sweaters and a few winter coats. The shop also offers fashion jewelry and a limited supply of diaper bags and boppie pillows. One special service provided by owner Julie Logan is the creation of custom diaper “cakes” for occasions such as baby showers.
Monkey Mums is not a consignment store. Logan purchases the used clothing outright, by appointment only, and tries to focus on name-brand, stylish and up-to-date attire.
Her daughter, 17-month-old Hoku-lina, was Logan’s inspiration to open Monkey Mums Maternity. “When I was pregnant,” said Logan, “I had such a hard time finding maternity clothes in Mount Vernon. I had to drive to Columbus or Mansfield or other places. And, buying brand new clothes — that you don’t wear that much — was very expensive. ... It is so much easier to have a store and help everybody out.”
Monkey Mums, which accepts cash or credit cards for purchases, is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays; closed Sunday and Monday.
