  • Dan Emmett Elementary celebrates excellent rating

MOUNT VERNON — The Dan Emmett Elementary school family recently celebrated its “Excellent” rating on the state report card and concurrently held an all-school assembly/pep rally to motivate the third-graders to do their best on this week’s Ohio Achievement Assessment in reading.

Principal Margy Arck talked to all the students about how proud everyone should be that Dan Emmett met all eight state indicators on the report card. She stressed that all the students are a part of the success, including kindergartners.

A few of the teachers performed a skit, written by fifth-grade teacher Patti Geoppinger, to give the third-graders a glimpse of what taking the test would be like.

The pupils in kindergarten and grades one and two then returned to their classrooms for a celebratory flavor ice, while the other students remained in the gym.

Fourth- and fifth-graders lined the perimeter of the gym and, as the third-graders ran past, clapped and cheered them on for the upcoming test.

“We played celebration music and cheered them on,” Arck said.
