MOUNT VERNON — Six property value complaint cases were brought to the Knox County Auditor’s office in settlement hearings on Monday. Four of these cases were agreed upon with two still pending, according to Knox County Auditor Jonette Curry.
Those parties on the mediation schedule Monday were Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Donald and Margo Nuce, Ohio Power Company, Karen Buchwald Wright & KBW Capital, Eleven Coshocton Ave. LLC, and Gary and Grace Tortorella.
Letters were sent to all taxpayers or representatives prior to Monday’s hearings. School districts annually have the right to file complaint forms on the appropriate market value of properties based on sale prices. The majority of the cases in the complaints were commercial properties, and many go back to the 2008 tax year, according to Curry, who said they try to handle all cases locally as much as possible.
In the cases where agreements were reached on the set value, stipulation notices are now sent to each party for signatures before they can be forwarded to the board of tax appeals for termination.
Information on these cases is available at the board of tax appeals in Columbus.
