  • Morrow County Sheriff Deputy shot responding to incident

  • October 21, 2010 3:51 pm EDT

CHESTERVILLE — A shoot-out between a Morrow County Sheriff's Deputy and a resident of rural eastern Morrow County at about 1 p.m. Thursday resulted in gunshot wounds to both. Morrow County Sheriff Steven Brenneman had few details of the confrontation a short time after the incident but did say both the officer and resident were taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Brenneman said what he had learned was the officer went to the remote farm on Morrow County Road 179 near the Knox County line to investigate a possible drug or marijuana case. The shooting occurred in a field a short distance from the farmhouse.

Police officers from several departments, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol converged on the scene after the shooting. Brenneman called in the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification and a bomb squad to help with the investigation.
