  • Deputy wounded in shootout in Morrow County

  • October 22, 2010 11:44 am EDT

CHESTERVILLE — A shoot-out between a Morrow County Sheriff’s Deputy and a resident of rural eastern Morrow County at about 1 p.m. Thursday resulted in gunshot wounds to both.

Morrow County Sheriff Steven Brenneman said both the officer, deputy Brandon Moore, and resident, Shane Roush, were taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus by MedFlight helicopter. Moore was shot three times in the legs and torso.

Brenneman said the officer went to the remote farm on Morrow County Road 179 near the Knox County line to investigate a possible drug or marijuana case. The shooting occurred in a field a short distance from the farmhouse.

Police officers from several departments, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol converged on the scene after the shooting. Authorities conducted a search of the property after the shooting and found at least 500 marijuana plants, along with several guns and hand-grenades.

Brenneman called in the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification and the Franklin County bomb squad to help with the investigation.

No charges have been filed against Roush as of Thursday evening.
