MVFD contains fire on Shirley Avenue

A late Monday morning fire, did extensive damage to two apartments at 205 Shirley Ave. in Mount Vernon. It was unclear in which apartment the fire started but damage was done to apartments B and C. No one was hurt in the fire.  (George Breithaupt)

Trying out for OJM

Fifty Ohio high school senior girls and their parents came to Mount Vernon for tryouts for the Ohio Junior Miss Scholarship Program in February. State Chair Cheri Butcher, left, talked with Victoria Fox from Wayne County and Northwest High School. Her parents, Stephanie and Mark Fox brought her to the tryouts at Mount Vernon High School. Fire remnants

The ceramics room in the basement of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Buchwald Center in downtown Mount Vernon shows the damage left from the firefighting efforts in order to save the building. The building to the north of the Buchwald Center at 201 N. Main St., was destroyed by fire on Oct. 25. Stokes honored by victory bell

Longtime East Knox football assistant coach Bill Stokes was honored by the East Knox Athletic Boosters at half-time of the Devil-Dog game on Saturday. Stokes was a coach for 28 years at EK and provided the district with many fond memories and successful seasons. The boosters dedicated a victory bell in his honor and presented him with a framed photo signed by many of his former players.
