  • Tree planted in Davis’ memory

  • November 1, 2010 11:33 am EDT

GAMBIER — Members of Community Christian Fellowship paid tribute to murder victim Jean Davis on Sunday morning when a tree was planted on the church grounds in her memory. Davis’ body was discoverd Dec. 20, 2009, at her home after she failed to attend that day’s church services.

“We wanted to do something in her remembrance,” said pastor Bob Pelfrey, who said member Michael Brooks came up with the idea of planting a tree on the church grounds. Brooks went to work on the project and found a tree donor in Kelton Spence of Eagle Ridge Nursery. “The tree is a Serbian Spruce,” said Brooks. “It is one tough tree; it will live through anything.”

Brooks said that’s why that species of tree was chosen in memory of Davis.
