  • Cause of explosion and fire remains under investigation

MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Fire Department was called to 225 Adamson St. at 9:27 a.m. Sunday on a reported explosion and fire.

Firefighters from the MVFD and College Township Fire Department arrived to find the house on fire, the east side foundation and many windows blown out.

No one was home at the time of the explosion, accord to MVFD Chief Shawn Christy.

The blaze was extinguished in about 40 minutes. Firefighters were able to enter the house as Columbia Gas representatives turned off the gas from the road. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

According to the Knox County Auditor’s website, the property is owned by Ginger Harris.
