  • Hunter’s death caused by fall

MOUNT VERNON — A 70-year-old Newark man died from injuries sustatined from falling from a tree stand while hunting near Bladensburg on Tuesday, according to Knox County Coroner Jennifer Ogle.

Ogle told the News this morning Thomas Kent Giles Sr. died as a result of the fall. However, it has not yet been determined why Giles fell from the tree stand.

According to Knox County Sheriff David Barber, deputies and the Bladensburg Fire Department squad were dispatched to 30180 Jug Run Road on Tuesday at 5:48 p.m., after the property owner reported finding his hunting partner on the ground below his tree stand.

Barber said medics found Giles, of 2048 Lorimer Drive, Newark, unresponsive on the ground beneath a tree stand. Barber said Giles had fallen approximately 15 feet to the ground from the stand.
