  • November 12, 2010 12:25 pm EST

MARTINSBURG — Fire destroyed a business that builds prefabricated wood walls on Millersburg Road Thursday morning, just north of Artanna.

The fire was in a large, 100-by-60-foot pole barn building which housed Wall Solutions Inc., is owned by Don Garrett who was away at the time.

Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District Chief Larry Stimpert said they got the call at 9:19 a.m. When they arrived the fire was well advanced. Smoke rose several hundred feet into the still air and was visible for several miles.

Stimpert immediately called for mutual aid with tankers from Bladensburg, College Township, Utica and Walhonding Valley. The EKCJFD had two fire engines and a tanker with six firefighters in addition to Stimpert and Captain Brian Durbin. They were able to draw water from a pond less than a quarter mile away.
