  • November 17, 2010 11:42 am EST

DANVILLE — The Danville Board of Education had a mostly routine meeting Monday, Treasurer Mary Payne told the News on Tuesday.

School finances were a topic of discussion, Payne said, and the district’s finance committee will be meeting to start developing a plan to balance the district’s budget. Payne said there is speculation that possible cuts in state funding to schools could occur before the end of this fiscal year, which is June 30. The projected cuts range from 10 percent to 20 percent of current funding. Payne said the district will try to do everything it can to live within its means while maintaining its individuality, that is, maintaining the programs that make Danville schools Danville schools.

Regarding personnel, the board employed Julie Smith as an as-needed home instructor and issued a supplemental contract to Janet Marsano to serve as a representative to the Local Professional Development Committee and to Angela Gaumer to serve as an as-needed home instructor for the 2010-11 school year. Phil Gantt was approved as a volunteer for the boys basketball program and Natalie Dalton was accepted as a volunteer for the girls basketball program.
