MOUNT VERNON — Sales at downtown business es have picked up, and it couldn’t have come at a better time, according to downtown business owners.
For more than three weeks, businesses on South Main Street were reporting slow sales with a limited number of patrons visiting their businesses.
“People avoided downtown,” said Larry Woolson, co-manager at The Woolson Company. “But that’s overwith and we’re glad to be moving on. It is better. There is much more foot traffic now.”
With the annual Christmas Parade and Christmas Walk taking place Sunday and the Christmas shopping season now under way, it seems like perfect timing for business owners with traffic now returning to normal downtown.
“Our business was down some, but we do much of our business by phone,” said Lori Amstutz, manager of Williams Flower Shop. “Although it has helped tremendously.”
Amstutz stated the “Today Show” on Friday was announcing that today is “Support Your Local Small Business Day.”
“Small businesses help drive the economy,” said Amstutz, as she encouraged everyone to mark this day by supporting their local small businesses.
