  • Tradition continues with craft sale

  • December 1, 2010 11:26 am EST

GAMBIER — The tradition of the Gambier Craft Sale will continue this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with its festive holiday theme, Austrian Christmas Marketplace. Hosted at the Kenyon College Athletic Center, the bazaar will feature handcrafted and handmade items for purchase by holiday shoppers.

More than 100 crafters and artists will participate in the event, which is an increase from previous years.

“It’s more than it was for a while,” said Judith Wainscott, contributing the increase from alternate sale venues like eBay, Amazon, and other online selling that has encouraged people to get back into crafting as well as the current economic state.

Vendors will be coming from as far away as Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania and as close as Mount Vernon, Howard and Gambier.

“Some of them have been coming for many, many years, and some are new this year,” said Wainscott, craft sale manager.

Anyone shopping this holiday season will be able to find the perfect gift for family, friends, and maybe something for themselves. A wide variety of handmade items: Fabric art, clothing, quilts, soaps, perfumes, wreaths and holiday decorative pieces, will be available as well as homemade jams, syrups, nut butter, candy and baked goods.

“We try hard to have a selection of items instead of just one kind of thing,” she said.
