FREDERICKTOWN — Fredericktown Mayor Roger Reed submitted his official resignation to Fredericktown Village Council, Monday night.
“It’s been a privilege and a pleasure to serve the village of Fredericktown for the past 16 years,” Reed said.
Reed’s last day as village mayor will be Dec. 31. He will begin his term of Knox County Commissioner on Jan. 1.
Council President Dave Glass then resigned his seat as council president, effective immediately, leaving the positions of mayor and council president vacant.
After council accepted both resignations, nominations were opened for the position of council president. Glass nominated Alan Kintner who was unanimously elected. As council president, Kintner will assume the duties of mayor with Reed’s exit. Kintner will serve the remaining one year of Reed’s term as mayor.
With a new member now needed for council, the mayor has 30 days in which he can make an appointment. After that time, council members will approve the appointment. Reed encouraged any village resident interested in the open council position to submit a letter of interest with resume to the village office.
Council was addressed by Dan Shrimplin and Mark Blanchard, members of the Fredericktown Community Development Foundation. President Shrimplin explained how a committee has developed a program to promote positiveness and community support in the village. A poster was presented which reads “Due to the economy, we’ve laid off gloom, doom and bad news. Fredericktown, Ohio, this city Rocks!”
“We want folks to know that good things are happening in Fredericktown, and to make visitors in town aware of what we as a village have to offer,” said Shrimplin. The posters are to be passed around to many businesses in town. A billboard of this poster is also planned to be erected. “It’s really important to communicate,” said Blanchard, urging residents to “come to a meeting ... we need some good minds. We’ll talk about things going on in Fredericktown.”
