  • Commissioners continue county budget hearings

  • December 10, 2010 10:51 am EST

MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Commissioners continued to work with county department heads on Thursday to prepare the 2011 budget.

Knox County Auditor Jonette Curry presented her budget which showed identical figures in the general fund as 2010 at $215,732. Expenditures as of Dec. 7 were at $187, 610 with two more payrolls yet to come.

In the real estate assessment budget, the appropriations showed a $15,000 decrease from 2010, down to $491,100. Items allowing for the lowered projected budget were supplies, equipment and other expenses. “We will not meet our appropriations on certain accounts,” said Curry. “We have gone paperless as much as possible which has allowed us to save some money.” The commissioners expressed their gratitude to Curry for diligently managing her budget.

Presenting the budget for the prosecutor’s office was John Thatcher.

“In comparing budgets with counties that are similar in size to Knox County, we have found that our expenses are on the low end,” said Thatcher, citing comparisons to Huron, Pickaway, Darke, Ashland and Seneca counties. “We just want to see where we compare with others.”
