Toys for Tots
The 23 students in Emily Bradford’s fifth-grade class at Dan Emmett Elementary School were the winners in the numbers of toys they collected in the third annual collection of Toys for Tots. The fifth-grade class collected 84 toys. The entire elementary donated 810 items to the Toys for Tots program. The student council sponsored the toy drive and they had a big “wrap up” assembly Thursday afternoon. In the background at left is Gunnery Sgt. Two injured in Friday accident
The car in the foreground went left of center causing this collision on Wooster Road, Friday afternoon. Both drivers were hospialized. Wooster Road, five miles north of Mount Vernon, was shut down to traffic for about an hour. (Virgil Shipley)


Christmas dinner
Seniors from around Knox County, 350 of them, enjoyed a Christmas dinner at The Dan Emmett Conference Center on Friday. Enjoying the atmosphere and the Christmas spirit were, seated from left, Louise and Harold Robertson, Mount Vernon; Phil and Barb Bentz, Howard; and Donna Ulmer of Mount Vernon.
