MOUNT VERNON — John Freeman, 40, Gambier, filed a not guilty plea through his attorney, James Giles, this morning in Mount Vernon Municipal Court on a single charge of inducing panic.

He was released from the Knox County Jail on bond Monday after having been arrested on Saturday by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Kenyon College safety officers contacted the KCSO regarding a conversation Freeman had at a Gambier bar where Freeman said he was going to shoot Kenyon College students so the police would shoot him, according to Knox County Sheriff David Barber.

An AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and four 30-round magazines were found in Freeman’s New Castle Road residence. No ammunition was found.
