FREDERICKTOWN — Student and staff achievements were highlighted Tuesday at the Fredericktown school board meeting.
With board president Tom Seymour citing “absolutely phenomenal achievements,” the board issued formal commendations to the boys and girls cross country teams and individual runners, the football team, individual players and their coaches for their outstanding accomplishments this fall. The board also commended sixth-grade teacher Susan Link, who has been recognized by the Ohio Department of Education as a Master Teacher.
Teacher Jan Reynolds talked to the board about the Blue Ribbon ceremony she and elementary principal Emily Funston attended in Washington, D.C. She thanked the board members for their support in helping the school earn the reward for outstanding school improvement. Superintendent Jim Peterson in turn said the well-deserved accolade is due to the hard work of students as well as parents and staff, and gave special thanks to Reynolds, who, he said, “rallied the elementary teachers in a common cause.”
Funston then reported the preliminary results of the fall administration of the third-grade Reading Achievement Assessment is that 75 percent of the students have passed the test. In the spring third-graders will again take the reading test as well as one in math.
Peterson reported the Community Coffee Conversations are going well. He said the informal chats, held in the homes of community members, are focused on the question: What can we do to improve education in our community.
