MOUNT VERNON — What better way to get into the holiday cheer than by going to see Orange Barrel Production Company’s “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” presented in part by MTVarts.
Laughter never felt so jolly and humor never felt so funny when I watched the tale of how one group of “unruly” youngsters learn firsthand the true meaning of Christmas.
Told from the narrative of Beth Bradley (Kaylee Van Winkle), the story sets off with the foretelling of the six rambunctious Herdmens: Imogene (Ella Dean), Claude (Jonah Bradley), Leroy (Elijah Dean), Olive (Fredi Bockover), Ralph (Thor Fox), and Gladys (Karly Jacklin), who undoubtedly fix their way into a Christmas pageant in hope of “Twinkies,” but gain instead the “big” parts of Mary, Joseph, the three wise men and the angel.
“It may be the first Christmas pageant in history where Joseph and the wise men get into a fight, and Mary runs away with the baby,” said Mrs. Bradley (Carrie Couch).
The story is engaging, compelling, and so funny with an incredible cast that will show you what Christmas is all about. “It’s about Jesus,” said Alice (Catherine Haws). “Everything here is,” said Imogene.
Don’t miss your chance to see “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” showing today at 7 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the First Christian Church on East Vine Street. This exceptional classic will touch your heart and inspire you to share in the holiday spirit of “peace on earth and good will toward all men.”
