  • December 22, 2010 11:01 am EST

MARENGO — An early morning fire today consumed a Marengo home and sent two residents to the hospital with injuries. Capt. Lauri Spreng of the Big Walnut Fire Department in Marengo dispatched firefighters to 56 W. Walnut St. in Marengo when a fire at the residence was reported at 12:38 a.m.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find neighbors had assisted the residents out of the burning house.

Arriving for mutual aid were Porter-Kingston, Elm Valley and Cardington fire departments.

Spreng reported that five residents sustained minor injuries. Two people were transported to Morrow County Hospital in Mount Gilead, and one was admitted. Names of the individuals were unavailable.

The house is considered a total loss, according to Spreng. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal.
