MOUNT VERNON — The former Mount Vernon Middle School at 301 N. Mulberry St. has been sold.

The deed records show it was sold by Kokosing River Residential Care Facility LLC to International Missionary Resources Inc. on Monday.

Both companies, however, are located in Crestline with John Charles Mertz listed as the principal contact for both companies.

Dilapidated Buildings Chairman Dave Glass spoke with John Bechtel, whom some referred to as the (former) owner of the building.

“I spoke to him Monday afternoon and he told me as much as he wanted to tell me,” Glass said. “He told me Mertz was still the principal (owner) and that there was some type of a group that would manage the place but that he (Bechtel) would still be involved in the construction part of it.

“But my big problem is how do you get ahold of these guys when you need to. For the last couple of years I have been going through their attorney John Dilts in Mansfield. That’s how I made contact with them anyway. It sounds like maybe it’s just a name change. But I’m not sure.”

Glass confirmed that the phone number the News obtained for IMR is the same as he had for Mertz.

Attempts to contact Mertz by the News were unsuccessful as of press time.
