  • Offices to close for holiday

MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon News office will be open Friday on New Year’s Eve. The obituary deadline for Friday’s edition is 8 a.m., and the obituary deadline for the Saturday, Jan. 1, edition will be Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Businesses and offices, which will be closed for the New Year’s holiday, include:

•All Knox County Offices will be closed Friday. This includes the Treasurer’s Office, housed within the Service Center.

•Gambier Village Offices will be closed Friday.

•The office of the Knox Metropolitan Housing Authority will be closed Friday. The office handling the CHIP housing rehabilitation activities for the city of Mount Vernon and Knox County will also be closed.

•Mid-Ohio Transit Authority will be closed Friday and Saturday. It will reopen for business on Monday, Jan. 3.

•The Knox County Department of Job & Family Services will be closed Friday. This includes Workforce Development, Opportunity Knox One Stop Employment and Training, Public Assistance, Child Support Enforcement, and Children and Family Services.

•The Knox County Health Department will be closed Friday. In addition, there will be no Put It Out for Good smoking cessation classes on Thursday.
