Packing up presents
The spacious lawn in front of Don and Candy Wheeler’s more than a century old farm home on Columbus Road just west of Mount Vernon has a large display of Christmas lights. They have put up the display since 1998 and they add new things each year. They don’t know how many lights are in the display but it took the couple three weeks, mostly weekends, to put everything in place. In this picture, elves are hurrying to place packages in Santa’s boot. The front of the home and other buildings have icicles from all of the eaves. (Virgil Shipley)
Danville Christmas lights
There are icicles hanging from the eaves of the Timothy and Tabetha Evans home on U.S. 62, on the east side of Danville. This is the second year for their display with about 25 strands of lights making up the scene. Evans says the tree on the right is his gum drop tree. (Virgil Shipley)
A cowboy Christmas in Fredericktown
There are 80 different Christmas ornaments on display in the Fredericktown Community Park. They are the property of Nora, and now the late John, Parsons. Nora Parsons, a native of Fredericktown, has lives for several years in Texas and returned home to live. The Parsonses added to the collection over several years. They will be on display each evening from 5:30 to 11 p.m. through Dec. 31. (Virgil Shipley)

This is the fifth year Pleasant and Suzanne Hopkins III have put out Christmas lights at their home on Bethel Road at Ohio 229, just east of U.S. 62. The display covers an acre and a half with 4,500 lights. “It gets bigger every year,” the Hopkins said and took three weekends to put in place. (Virgil Shipley)
