MOUNT VERNON — The new year brings a new list of expectations for projects and plans for the city of Mount Vernon.
Mayor Richard Mavis discussed that in 2011 the city will be revising its solid waste plan to comply with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s regulations.
In previous years, the city was in compliance with the EPA’s requirement to provide a curbside recycling program to all residents.
“And the way we enforced this was by licensure at the health department,” he said. “When they did the licenses they required companies to sign a document saying that you would provide a curbside recycling programing to customers. But since the health department stop licensing, we have no guarantee or authority that this is taking place. So we will need to have that in place prior to our first draft in August of this year.”
Mavis said this regulation will help the city identify who is running a solid waste pickup in the city and how it is being done.
