Truckers from United Aggregate Co. were busy hauling in loads of fill dirt Monday as the hole where the former Kresge building stood on South Main Street was being filled. City engineer Cameron Keaton stated the hole is being filled with a soil/clay mix that compacts and stands up well. Keaton said West Gambier Street should be open to traffic by the end of this week. A retaining wall was recently poured which prevents any pressure being placed on the adjoining Buchwald Center. Property owner John Montenery stated he would like to pursue the possibility of a public skating rink yet this winter, if it can be worked out. He is now waiting on the hole to be filled and street opened up to see if the project can be completed yet this winter.
