MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon residents looking to save money on their gas bill should look into joining the natural gas aggregation program brokered for the city with Volunteer Energy.

“Our first agreement was 10 percent off [the cost of natural gas],” said Tom Bellish of Buckeye Energy Brokers. “Now the price goes by the auction number so we had to change our program to match that.”

Bellish said bids were taken to create the best price for interested city residents. The best deal on fuel prices again came from Volunteer Energy, Bellish said, offering 7 percent off the auction price per unit.

As Columbia Gas no longer offers the sale of fuel to its customers, fuel prices are set at auctions which take place in February of each year, he said.

The discount, Bellish explained, pertains only to the cost of fuel and not the distribution or transmission costs.
