Truck, traffic snarled by sand
Mount Vernon street department workers sweep sand off the intersection of Public Square and East High Street on Thursday so the wheels of the truck had traction to climb the hill. Light destroyed
Mount Vernon Street Department workers shovel snow and inspect the damage to a crosswalk light following a traffic accident. Harvey Huggins, 72, Mount Vernon, was charged with a red light violation after his pickup ran over the crosswalk light at the intersection of South Main Street and Mount Vernon Avenue on Thursday afternoon. Mount Vernon Police Patrolman Travis Tharp said Huggins made a right turn on red and ran into the path of a Kokosing Construction Co. pickup driven by Brett Myers, 56, Galion. Huggins steered right and ran down the light. There were no injuries reported. (Virgil Shipley)


A funny way to earn one’s wings
Robin Clark (Jared Wise), left, was surprised to learn he was “expecting” when he received his message from the angel, Eugene (Kaitlyn Goehring) in the Phoenix Force Drama Ministry production of “Whose Angel is it, Anyway?” This Christian comedy play will be performed at the New Life Church of the Nazarene on Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 7 p.m. There is no admission fee, and donations are welcome. MVMS wrestlers finish fourth
The Mount Vernon Middle School wrestling team finished fourth in the Delaware Tormasi Middle School wrestling tournament on Saturday, despite filling just 12 of 16 weight classes.
