MOUNT VERNON — On Thursday, Richard McLarnan was again elected as president of the Knox County Educational Service Center board when the group reorganized for 2011. He will also serve as legislative liaison, and Ruby Miller will be vice president and as well as the board’s representative on the Alternative Center SPARK committee.

Turning to regular business, the board approved routine fiscal actions, and accepted the following donations: $500 from the Gay Street United Methodist Women to the preschool program scholarship program; $1,000 each from Ariel Corp. and Fredericktown Local Schools for the visiting author program; a piece of furniture from Erin Kempton to the preschool unit; and a $3,000 grant from the Community Foundation Trust for Therapeutic Listening.

The board renewed membership in the Ohio School Boards Association, the Knox County Chamber of Commerce and the Metropolitan Educational Council. An audit agreement with the Auditor of State’s Office was approved, as were service agreements with Newark City Schools for preschool aide services, and with Loudonville-Perrysville Schools for speech services. The board also discussed health insurance benefits and possible changes to the plan in June.

Regarding personnel, the board employed Renee Kaylor as a full-time classroom aide, retroactively effective Dec. 6, for the remainder of the school year, and added to both the substitute teacher and substitute aide lists.

Regular 2011 board meetings, except for February, will be held on the second Wednesday of the month in the Knox County board room. February’s meeting will take place on Feb. 23.
