MOUNT VERNON — An asbestos abatement project at the Mount Vernon Memorial Theater was brought to the Knox County Commissioners when they met Thursday morning with maintenance superintendent John Alberts.

Reported leaks inside the building were discussed by Alberts; and in an effort to find and correct leaks, portions of asbestos insulation would be required to be removed.

“We may have other leaks popping up,” said Alberts, who stated he would like to pursue replacing the current asbestos with fiberglass insulation.

“This way, we can do some of these projects ourselves down the road,” said Alberts, who said he has received quotes on a 600-foot section in a hallway and kitchen area in the Memorial Theater.

AHC Environmental Services of Columbus submitted a quote of $6,647 for asbestos removal. Alberts stated that AHC has been contracted for other county projects in the past with favorable results.
