MOUNT VERNON — Only two candidates in all of Knox County have filed for the May 3 primary.

“So far we have Richard K. Mavis for mayor of Mount Vernon and Nancy R. Vail for Third Ward of Mount Vernon City Council,” said Belinda Lanning, deputy director of the Knox County Board of Elections. “We have had a lot more people pick up petitions, but those are the only two who have filed.”

Candidates for elected offices have until Feb. 2 at 4 p.m. to file valid petitions with the board of elections.

For those who are not registered to vote and wish to do so in time for the May primary have until the end of the day on April 4 to do so.

Any questions regarding these or other voting issues can be directed to the Knox County Board of Elections at 393-6716.
