MOUNT VERNON — Meeting in special session on Monday, the Mount Vernon City Schools Board of Education unanimously voted to place a five-year 4.7-mills emergency operating levy on the May ballot.
“The $2.5 million that would be generated by the levy is greatly needed right now,” said Superintendent Steve Short, “even with cost containment measures. We are looking at a 15 percent cut in state funding, which is $1.8 million.”
The annual cost to an owner of a home valued at $100,000 would be $140.88. The monthly cost would be $11.74 and the daily cost is 39 cents.
Anyone wishing to find out how much the issue will cost may log onto the Mount Vernon City Schools website, click on Treasurer’s Office under the Main Menu button, then click on the Millage Calculator prompt.
