HOWARD — Meeting in special session on Tuesday, the East Knox Board of Education voted to proceed with placing an emergency tax levy on the May ballot. The 5-mill property tax levy would be in effect for five years and generate an annual amount of $1.2 million to be used for the operating expenses for the district.

“Our goal is to maintain current programs and minimize future reductions,” said Superintendent Matt Caputo. “We are not looking at bringing back programs. We can’t bring back two and a half years of reductions. We can minimize reductions with the passage of a levy. We are closely watching statewide budget reductions and their impact on us.”
