  • A fire in a second-story apartment at 707 Harcourt Road was quickly extinguished by Mount Vernon Fire Department firefighters on Friday. The department received the call at 1:55 p.m. and found the apartment’s porch and kitchen on fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The American Red Cross Knox County Chapter assisted tenants Cody Walker and Brian Wolford with food, clothing and shelter.
