MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon police officer was slightly injured when she crashed her cruiser Sunday at 11:45 p.m. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Patrolman Jessica Butler, 30, Mount Vernon, was northbound on Upper Gilchrist Road, just south of U.S. 36, when her cruiser left the right side of the wet roadway.

The cruiser hit and split a power pole, bringing down wires and a transformer. The patrol said the cruiser hit the pole in the center of its front end, causing heavy damage.

Butler was transported by Mount Vernon EMS to Knox Community where she was treated and released. The patrol charged her with failure to maintain reasonable control. Further information on the crash was not available today from the Mount Vernon Police Department.
