MOUNT VERNON — A Knox County deputy sheriff and his cruiser were victims of an icy road Sunday at 1:45 p.m.

The Ohio State Highway said Deputy Dan Shelby was southbound on Upper Gilchrist Road approaching New Gambier Road when the cruiser slid on the ice through the intersection into a tree.

Shelby was not injured and damage was confined to the front of the cruiser.
