A fire of undetermined cause damaged a garage and auto at 405 N. West St., just north of the Rolls-Royce plant, Wednesday afternoon.
Mount Vernon Fire Chief Shawn Christy said the department received the alarm at 3:58 p.m. The property is owned by George Small and occupied by Jeanette Harrold.
Chief Christy said the house, which was attached to the garage received some smoke damage. Two engines, the ladder truck, a command vehicle and medic responded. A hydrant was close by and firefighters had the fire under control in 17 minutes. Thirteen firefighters fought the fire.
A vehicle was in the garage. Damage to both the garage and car is estimated at $25,000. The American Red Cross of Knox County provided food and clothing for the family
